Route description

  1. Ride the Preunegg Jet from Pichl up to the Reiteralm.
  2. Past the Gasselhöhe Hütte, follow path no. 66 up onto the ridge and to the summit cross of the Gasselhöhe. Then comes an easier section with gentle ups and downs along the ridge towards the Rippetegg.
  3. After a gravelly climb (about 15 minutes) you reach the Rippetegg at 2,126 m. Go back a short way and start the initially steep descent to the Gasselseen lakes.
  4. Via the Obersee you reach the Spiegelsee and from there follow a wide path gently downhill back to the Reiteralmsee and the lift.

Good to know

Option via the Untersee

From the Spiegelsee you can return via the Stille Wasser theme trail past the Untersee (30–40 minutes longer).

One lift per day

The Schladming-Dachstein Card covers one lift up and down per day. That's why the trip starts and ends at the same lift.

For the experienced

The Gasselwand above the Reiteralm has the Franzi via ferrata (grade C/D). It requires equipment and experience.

Why “moderate”

Red mountain trail: narrow path, steep in places, needs sure footing. The descent from the Rippetegg to the lakes is steep at first and loose in places.
