What a summer card is, what it costs, where to get it and what it includes.
A summer card (Sommercard, Sommer Card, guest card) is a card for guests of Alpine holiday regions. Depending on the region it gives you free or discounted rides on cable cars, buses and trains, and free entry to pools, museums or boats. We compare 43 cards from Austria, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and France.
25 of the 43 cards come free with a stay at a partner accommodation. In some regions you pay a mandatory nightly fee, for example €7.50 per adult in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis or €10.44 in Zell am See-Kaprun in high season. Passes for guests without partner accommodation start at €46.
Most cards are issued by the partner accommodation when you arrive. For each card we link to the official list of partner hotels and apartments and a few verified places to stay. When you book, always ask the accommodation to confirm that you will get the card.
Yes. Children usually pay less and the youngest travel free, but the age limits differ by region. With the Lech Card, for example, children up to 14 travel free, and with the Zillertal Activcard family discount, children born in 2011 or later travel free when both parents buy a card. The catalogue calculation takes your children’s ages into account.
These cards include a glacier: Zillertal Activcard, Pitztal Sommer Card, Stubai Super Card, Zell am See-Kaprun Sommerkarte, Schladming-Dachstein Card. Some have restrictions, such as the Dachstein only once a week. You will find the details on each card’s page.
Summer cards are valid roughly from May to the end of October. The earliest season starts on 4 Apr and the latest ends on 8 Nov 2026. Cable cars have their own operating times, though, and some do not run outside high season. Information for summer 2027 is in preparation.
