A summer card without partner accommodation: cards to buy for camping, cabins and day trips
Staying at a campsite, with friends or in a hotel without a card? Eight Austrian summer cards can be bought by anyone. 2026 prices, a family example and the catches.

You only get most summer cards in Austria at partner accommodation. But if you are going camping, staying with friends, in a holiday cabin or in a hotel that is not part of the card scheme, you don’t have to pay for every cable car separately. Eight cards can be bought by anyone, wherever you sleep.

The catalogue works out the exact price for your group and number of days. Just enter your children’s ages and the number of days with a bought card.
What to watch out for
- Consecutive days. The Zillertal, Kitzbüheler Alpen and Kärnten cards are only valid on consecutive days. The exception is the Stubai Card: any 5 days within 7.
- The Kärnten Card starts on first use. The week counts from your first visit and must be used in one go.
- Not everywhere is unlimited. The Zillertal Activcard gives one cable car a day, the SalzburgerLand Card each attraction only once during its validity, the Kärnten Card each destination once a day.
- Family discounts differ. In the Zillertal children only travel free if the parents buy two adult cards. In Lech it is enough for one parent to have the card.
- Hybrid cards. The Ötztal Summer Card and the Stubai Super Card are included at partner accommodation. If you stay with a partner, you don’t need to buy them.
Cards you can’t buy
The JOKER CARD Saalbach, HochkönigCard, Schladming-Dachstein Card, Nationalpark SommerCard and other cards that are free with accommodation cannot be bought. If you stay in the region outside the partners, you pay normal cable car fares. In Schladming there is a paid seasonal Freizeitcard, which we do not yet compare in the catalogue. How to find partner accommodation is explained in our article on accommodation with a summer card.
How to choose a card you can buy
- How many days will you actually ride the lifts? A shorter 2–3-day card often works out better than a weekly one if you spend the other days at the lake or on trips without lifts.
- Unlimited or one lift a day? If you want several lifts in a day, go for a card without a daily limit.
- Your children’s ages. Family discounts vary from card to card, and with young children the difference can run to hundreds of euros.
- Ask at the campsite. Before buying, check whether your campsite or host is a partner of the card. Some campsites and apartments hand it out for free too.
- Do the maths. Add up the fares for the lifts you really want and compare them with the card price. The catalogue works it out for you.
Summary
For camping or a cabin, the cheapest is the Kärnten Card (all of Carinthia, €69 a week). For families, the Lech Card and the Zillertal Activcard pay off, as children travel free. If you want as many cable cars as possible, go for the Kitzbüheler Alpen Summer Card with its 40 cable cars. All cards you can buy are in the catalogue under the “Can be bought” filter.
