Route description

  1. From the Pordoi Pass take the cable car up the Sass Pordoi (2,950 m), the viewing terrace of the Dolomites.
  2. From the top station descend about 10 minutes to the Forcella Pordoi hut. From there follow path 627 towards the Rifugio Boè across the stony, almost lunar Sella plateau.
  3. Just before the Boè hut turn right onto path 638 to the summit. From here it is uphill all the way, with cables and metal steps helping on the rocky sections.
  4. On the summit stand the Capanna Piz Fassa hut and a cross. Return the same way. At the end you still have the climb from the Forcella back up to the cable car.

Good to know

You are above 2,800 m all day. Bring warm clothes even in August and go up in the morning, as afternoon thunderstorms are common here.

Shorter and steeper

A more direct route also leads from the Forcella Pordoi via the Capanna Fassa to the summit. It is steeper and more exposed, though.

Why “hard”
