Route description

  1. Ride the Schmittenhöhebahn or the trassXpress up to the Schmittenhöhe.
  2. Walk west along the ridge over the Kettingkopf and the Kettingtörl saddle on the Pinzgauer Spaziergang route.
  3. The last stretch leads to the summit of the Maurerkogel (2,074 m), where you can sign the summit book.
  4. Return the same way. About 10.5 km in total with over 500 m of climbing, as the ridge rises and falls several times.

Bring water

There are no more huts on the ridge beyond the Kettingkopf. The Pinzgauer Hütte is a little off the route.

From the second day of your stay

From 15 July to 15 September the card covers the Schmittenhöhe and the Kitzsteinhorn summit lifts only from the second day of your stay.

Weather

The ridge is exposed and there is nowhere to shelter in a thunderstorm. Set off in the morning.
