- You reach the Schmittenhöhe (1,965 m) from Zell am See on the Schmittenhöhebahn or the trassXpress gondola from the Schmittental.
- From the top station walk west over the Kettingkopf along the start of the Pinzgauer Spaziergang, the famous ridge trail to Saalbach.
- The loop turns off to the Pinzgauer Hütte and on to the Hochsonnbergalm.
- You return to the Schmittenhöhe by a different path. The loop is about 9 km with just under 400 m of climbing.
Good to know
Shorter option
For young children the Höhenpromenade from the Schmittenhöhe to the Sonnkogel is better: 2.4 km, 50 minutes and a playground with a viewing platform at the end.
From the second day of your stay
From 15 July to 15 September the card covers the Schmittenhöhe and the Kitzsteinhorn summit lifts only from the second day of your stay.
For experienced hikers
From the Kettingkopf the Pinzgauer Spaziergang continues to the Schattberg in Saalbach (17 km, about 6 h). The ride down from the Schattberg is paid separately, and a bus takes you back.

Yes. Included with the Zell am See-Kaprun Sommerkarte: Schmittenhöhebahn and trassXpress up and down. Without the card it costs €45 per adult and €22.50 per child (children born 2011–2020), so a family of 2 + 2 saves €135.
